We are only one month away from having a 2 year old. I’m so excited about all of the things Sam can do now and how much she has grown, but it brings tears to my eyes to think of how quickly these last 23 months have gone by. My itty bitty is now a little girl. I love this age, I wish I had a remote for her so I could just hit the pause button occasionally. But then I’m reminded of the book, “If I Could Keep You Little”, and I realize all of the amazing things I would miss if she stayed little forever. I am thankful for the chance to stay at home with her and see all of these milestones, the big and the small, and just hope that the next few years before she starts school don’t pass us by too quickly.
My sweet girl is so smart and sweet and fun! She is constantly picking up new words and amazes me when she knows something I didn’t know she knew! She now thinks because of our yard decoration at Christmas that Homer Simpson is Santa, and calls him "Homer Sanka" every time she sees him on television. She is getting better at following directions, although the toddler in her has made her realize that just because she understands, doesn’t mean she has to comply to the instructions given. I blame the stubbornness on her daddy and her grandpa, but refuse to take the blame for now. lol. She is fearless when it comes to climbing, sliding, jumping, but is still very aware of strangers which I feel is a good thing. She has a very sweet and fun disposition, but can be very physical. It has been hard to teach her to just pat her friends shoulder when she wants attention instead of pushing. I was glad she never had a biting phase, and the hitting didn’t last long, but I do have a pusher. It’s not out of anger though, so I guess that’s good, she just wants everyone to look at her! lol.
Her eating habits are pretty good for a toddler. She has a yogurt, milk and cereal every morning. She loves fruit, if she isn’t careful she will turn into an apple or strawberry. She just started eating hamburger helper which makes me happy just because she will eat the meat which means more protein. She loves chicken nuggets but only from McDonald’s and Chick fil A, and asks for chicken, fries, and shake every time we go to a drive through, although she rarely gets the other two. lol. Oh and her love for black olives is only comparable to my own, I think it’s awesome that she likes unusual stuff like that and spinach.
Today I took Sam to her first dentist appointment. Our pediatrician suggests going before the age of 2, so I made an appointment with a pediatric dentist here in town. The staff was very friendly, and took their time trying to make Sam comfortable in a new environment. They led her back to her chair, and when she didn’t want to sit they took her over to a treasure wall and let her pick out a toy. She loved the little pink bouncy soccer ball, and kept throwing it. I tried to stop her, but the hygienist reassured me that it was fine that she could play while we discussed her health history. They were very complimentary to Sam’s brushing habits (what other almost 2 year old wants to brush their teeth 5 times a day?!), and encouraged paci use as long as we wanted to because they feel that thumb sucking is far more detrimental to her teeth. We talked about weaning strategies but they emphasized that I should do what I was comfortable with. We got Sam on the chair and took a few pictures, and while she didn’t smile she didn’t cry either, so that would have to do for a new place with new people. The dentist was very kind, and soft spoken. He was very gentle with Sam’s teeth and face as he maneuvered her mouth to see her pearly whites. Sam cried, but only because she had to lay down, and as soon as the exam was over she was back to playing with her new toy ball and watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse that was on the tv above her. The dentist said that there was nothing to be worried about, but that she was getting all four of her 2 year molars so she may have some discomfort. He said that she does appear to have a small crossbite (just like I did), but that hopefully that would resolve itself, and even if it didn’t there was no need to do anything until all of her permanent teeth come in. I guess we better start saving for braces just in case. Overall we were very happy, and Sam got her picture with a magnet frame and a new toothbrush so she was even more happy once we got home with those. lol. I guess that’s it for now. Next month I’ll have birthday pictures and a checkup entry for you, and a 2 year old!
